How to play

Every day there are three anime openings, the same for everyone. You start with half a second of each one. Name the show before the clip gets long.

A round

  1. Tap the play button. Nothing plays until you do.
  2. Tap or drag anywhere on the unlocked part of the wave to listen from that point. Pause keeps your place. The rewind button starts again from 0, and Loop repeats from where you started.
  3. Type the anime's name and pick it from the list.
  4. A wrong guess or Skip unlocks the next length: 0.5s, 2s, 4s, 7s, then 10s. If you were already listening, playback carries on into the new part. It does not start over.
  5. After five tries the round ends. You then see the anime, its cover and the full opening on YouTube, with the song and artist underneath.

What counts as right

You are naming the series, not a season. If the opening is from Attack on Titan Season 3, the answer “Attack on Titan” is correct. The reveal tells you which season or part it was.

The list understands English titles, romaji titles and common nicknames, so “Shingeki no Kyojin”, “AoT” and “SNK” all find the same show. The list contains many series that are not in today's set, so it cannot give the answer away. Song and artist names are never searchable.

Scoring

Naming it at 0.5s is worth 5 points, at 2s 4 points, and so on down to 1 point at 10s. A missed opening is worth 0. The best day is 15 points.

When the set changes

A new set starts at 00:00 UTC for everyone, whatever your time zone. If you are partway through when it changes, you can finish your current set first. Your progress for the day is kept in this browser only.

Keyboard

Space plays or pauses when you are not typing. With the wave focused, the left and right arrows move half a second. Slash jumps to the guess box. Up and down move through matches, and Enter guesses.
